Upgrading Your Garage Door? 3 Ways To Make Sure Its Energy Efficient

If you are looking to replace your garage door soon, here are three ways to make sure that your new garage door is energy efficient and effective.

#1 Insulation

The first thing that you need to look at is the insulation level of your new garage door. Insulation is measured in an R-value; the higher the number, the more insulation you are getting from your garage door.

You can purchase garage doors with built-in insulation instead of having to add insulation later. This will help regulate the temperatures inside of your garage and will play a small part in keeping the temperatures in your garage more regulated and consistent.

#2 Lightening

The second thing that you need to take into consideration is how your garage door contributed to the lightening situation in your garage. If your garage is relatively dark, you may want to purchase a garage door that has some windows installed across the top. This is a great way to get some natural light into your garage.

Just make sure that your garage door comes with tinted or frosted glass. This type of glass will allow you to get light into your garage without having to compromise on security. If you want to keep your garage as energy efficient as possible, you are also going to want to make sure that the windows installed in your garage door are at least double-paned, not single-paned glass. Single-paned glass allows heat to transfer through it more easily and will not keep your garage temperature regulated.

#3 Security

Finally, the third thing that you need to take into consideration is the security of your garage door. To start with, you are going to want to make sure that the garage door itself is solid. A garage door made out of reinforced steel or one made out of solid wood will be really difficult for someone to break through or damage in a quest to get your items out of your garage.

Second, make sure that you have a garage door opener installed that uses a rolling code. With a rolling code opener, a new security code will be issued each time you use your garage door opener, making it harder for a thief to crack. A garage door that uses the same access code each time isn't as secure an option as a rolling garage door opener.

As you search for a new garage door, make sure it is well-insulated, adds light to your garage, and is as secure as possible.
